Simple Removal for Full Bed Access

B&W Companion Simple Removal

With the Companion from B&W, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to the included Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work. When you're done towing, the Companion can be removed for complete bed access.

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

The included Turnoverball serves as a sturdy, custom base for installing the Companion in the bed of your truck, but it's also one of the most recognizable gooseneck hitches on the market.

Gooseneck Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 30,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 7,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"

B&W Companion Installed in Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

With the B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch you get the best of both worlds. When you go to tow a gooseneck trailer, the Turnoverball creates a sturdy, dependable connection with your trailer. And when you're done towing, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch to get full bed access and a clean appearance. When you're ready to tow your fifth wheel trailer, just install the Companion in the ball hole in place of the gooseneck ball and lock the post in place using the built-in handle. You can remove the fifth wheel when you're done towing, leaving your truck bed open once again.

This kit is custom designed for your vehicle. The mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.

Once you have the brackets and center section installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the mounting post of the Companion (or the base of the gooseneck hitch ball).

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Assembly of the B&W Companion

The Companion's pivot arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance. To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

  • What Is An OEM Prep Package And How Do I Know If I Have It
The OEM prep package consists of 4 "pucks" in the bed of the truck that will allow you to drop in puck style hitches for easy installation and removal, that gives you a completely clear bed when not in use. The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775 you were looking at has four puck style feet that drop into the pucks and a lever on each leg that simply turns to lock or unlock the leg in the puck. The underbed hitch system I recommend for your 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 is the B&W Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1020-5W that can be paired with the Sliding # BWRVK3400-5W or Stationary # BWRVK3500-5W B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch since there isn't a standard aftermarket puck system for your truck. We do have the Demco kit # DR37FR which looks more similar to the OEM puck kit, but Demco designed this to only work with their 5th wheel hitches as a direct connection so you'll get a lot more use out...

The only puck system available for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 is the OEM puck system which is only available from Chevy. It is not available aftermarket. We do have options for both fifth wheel and gooseneck mounts, but nothing quite like the OEM puck system. Our most similar option is the B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1020-5W and Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. The companion hitch mounts into the receptacle for the gooseneck ball. • Best Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch For Clean Bed on 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 With or Without Puck System
These are really good questions and we can definitely set you up with the right 5th wheel hitch for your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 short (also called standard) bed, but to quickly answer your question about underbed brackets, there aren't any that are universal (as nice as that would be), they are only designed to be used with specific 5th wheel hitches. That said, you do have a number of different options, which I'll list for you and then make my recommendation. 5th Wheel Hitch for 2020...

Hi Kindra! I do have an option for you that is similar, but there is no way to add factory style pucks to your 2022 Chevy Silverado 3500, unfortunately. This is a 2-1/2 inch square hole, but won't have anything to do with a standard hitch receiver like for a bumper pull trailer. There is a B&W Companion that will work for your 2017 Ford F-350, though the # BWRVK3300 is a fixed hitch and you will need the sliding version in order to avoid damage to your F-350's cab when making sharp turns since you have a 6-3/4' bed. The Companion for your '17 F-350 with the fifth wheel prep package is # BWRVK3370. You have made a wise choice in fifth wheel hitch because the Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available. It features dual...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch for Gooseneck Ball in 2005 Ram 2500 Short Bed
Hi Mike; I noticed you were looking at a B&W 5th wheel hitch. Is your gooseneck hitch the B&W Turnoverball? The hole for the ball would be square if it is. If so, you can use the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W. However, this is a heavy sucker so not exactly the most manageable for one person. The Andersen Aluminum Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection 2 Gooseneck # 3220 will also work (works with any brand gooseneck hitch). This hitch is incredibly light with the base at 35 lbs so that sounds more...

The B&W Companion RVK3000 was an early model that has a max weight rating of 18,000 lbs, adjustable height ranging from 14-3/4" - 16-3/4", and used U-Bolts for the installation. The B&W Companion # BWRVK3500 was upgraded so that the weight rating is now 20,000 lbs, has a higher adjustable height range of 16-1/4" - 18-1/4" (which is more common), and has a single point for mounting which makes it easier to use. It wasn't that the older systems were bad, B&W just saw where they could make...

  • Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 2500 Short Bed To Navigate Tight Campground Turns
I can help you navigate those tight turns in your 2014 Ram 2500. Since the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5GX1216 that you referenced does not move the pivot point further back you really do not gain much clearance for tight turns with a short bed truck. Also, if you use an offset adapter like this you can not use an additional offset adapter like the B and W extender you referenced. This would cause too much leverage on the trailer. Instead I would highly...

  • Best 5th Wheel Hitch Setup For Full Bed Access On A 2011 Ford F350
Hello Jonathan, thanks for reaching out. The best way to keep full bed access on your 2011 F350 will be to go with a B&W Tunoverball/Companion hitch setup. For your truck you can use # BWGNRK1111-5W for the installation kit and the # BWRVK3400-5W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch. There are a few big advantages to going with this setup. First, the installation kit is actually a B&W gooseneck hitch. So, with the hitch removed from the bed, you will still have the full bed at your disposal with...

The Hijacker gives you more clearance than any other sliding hitch because of its 14 inches of front-to-back travel; other hitches have between 10 inches and 12 inches of travel. • How to Determine Clearance for Gooseneck Hitch on 2016 Dodge Ram 2500
You need to use the following calculation to find if you have enough clearance: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the gooseneck ball to the truck cab B = Offset used C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2. So your A is 35" and C is 48" which means right now Clearance = -13". You really want A to be 4" more than C so in this case you need a 17" offset.
